To become a real estate appraiser, you need to go through some courses that deals with various real estate information like cost estimation.  Aside from that, you need to pass an exam to be a licensed appraiser.  It is not enough to be a licensed appraiser, you also need to gain experience by working for a firm and learn new ideas and techniques from other experienced appraisers and from different deals that you will handle.
