The good, the bad and the incompetent

Buying a house is an important decision to make.  To help homebuyers properly decide on what house to choose, it is ideal to hire an agent who knows the real estate process more than they do.  If you lack experience in home buying, how can you tell if you hired a good, bad or incompetent agent?  Here are seven traits of bad and incompetent agents to help you decide before calling it quits with your agent.

* He doesn’t listen to your wants, needs, wishes and home preferences.  He keeps on showing you houses that are outside your chosen neighborhood or budget.
* Lack of experience.  An experienced agent will know everything there is about the housing market.  Check if your agent has a license and ask a lot of questions to gauge the competency of your agent.
* He is abusive.  He treats you poorly, yells at you, makes critical comments or badger you to make an offer on a property you don’t like.
* An agent should not be manipulative and unethical.  He should not push you to make unethical moves or manipulate you in making unremarkable decisions when looking for a house.
* He betrays you by releasing your personal information to other people.
* He doesn’t have time for you.  He doesn’t respond to you immediately, he leaves you hanging or he doesn’t drive out to look at the houses in neighborhoods that you’re interested in.
* He is pushy.  You don’t want someone shy or passive but you also don’t want an agent who is really pushy.
